New year ahead, which means a load of great new features.

It’s been another great year at TeamworkPM and we have seen our customer base continue to grow even further. We had some great new customers join TWPM and we have rolled out a load of great features and improvements.

Although a lot of our time this year was spent sitting behind our desks replying to customers or building new features, it was great that we got the chance to travel over to Paris at the end of the year for Le Web 2010. Peter and myself really enjoyed getting the chance to meet face to face with some of you and a chance to show TeamworkPM off to a whole bunch of new people. Just before our trip, Dan even found a girl brave enough to marry him, so all in all it was a good year.

As one year ends and another starts, I thought it would be cool to take a look at our live updates page to see how many updates Dan and Peter managed to roll out. I have to say it’s impressive. It took me about five minutes of just clicking quickly on "Show more" to finally get to January of last year. I was hoping to save the whole page and upload it here to show off but there was just no-way to show an image of that size and make it readable, so make sure to take a look yourself.

It’s wasn't untill I got the chance to pause and look back at all the updates that I really realized just how many changes and improvements were put in place during 2010.

When you're living it, it feels like we are never getting on top of the new features because as we roll out a new feature we are already talking about the next one, how cool it would be if it was there and how people will love it. It’s kinda like the carrot on the end of a string story - it's always being dangled in front of our faces but we never ever get to it. Below are a few updates I pulled from the list just to hightlight some of the great new features that came out.

Some of the big updates rolled out last year:

  • Speed improvements to the whole system
  • New improved calendar
  • Recurring events
  • The ability to link accounts
  • More and better language translations
  • New Billing section
  • Freshbooks Integration with our billing section
  • Improved daily emails
  • New people and companies section
  • Improvements to Milestones : Mini-Calendars
  • New reports and ability to customize reports
  • Project Categories
  • Improvements to permissions within TeamworkPM
  • Full public API released
  • iPhone App released
  • UI improvements
  • Improvements to the task timer
  • And a whole load more......

There are far too many updates to list here but if you’re interested in seeing everything make sure you check out our updates page.

That now brings us on to this year. We already have a whole load of wonderful ideas and updates in store. One thing we have always been upfront about is where we are taking the product and what we are working on. We have a published road map of new features we are currently working on as well as ideas we have for new features.

Most of these improvements and new features have come directly from our customers. We have ideas on what direction we are going with TeamworkPM ourselves and what new features we would like to see but I have to say what turns our ideas into reality is based largely on the feedback and suggestions that we receive from our customers.

We would like to start off the year by thanking all of you that have sent on your ideas and feedback, along with your nice letters of encouragment and praise. (always wecome and nice to recieve)

We hope you are enjoying seeing some of your ideas actually turn into cool new features that everyone can use and benefit from, and we hope you are also looking forward to all the new features we have coming soon. Below is the list taken from our live roadmap on what we are working on.

From a customers stand point, I am truly excited at the great improvements thruout this year and looking forward to the exciting new features in store.... I love Teamwork's approach to evolve the platform based on the customers needs and feedback...
very keen to see these features, especially the Desktop timer app and the Task Dependencies! Would also love an 'import xml' function so we can take our tasks out of our Gantt chart and into TW
You guys are amazing. I just recently found you (just over a month of light use) and you have already blown me away through your prompt responses and open development dialog. You have an amazingly high quality system, and I can do nothing but look forward to how it will help me in the future.
Thanks to you all for your comments. The desk top timer App will hopefully be coming in the not to distant future. Dan is working away on this at the moment so we hope to have more news about it soon.
Me & my projects' team just joined you in the past few days, you're doing a fabulous job!. we have moved from Projectplace.com to your PM tool. we choose you because you're meeting 95% of our needs and at the same time much far cheaper than projectplace.

There're still some areas need to be fill, and I am sure with your improvements, it will be our life PM tool. I have sent you some of the features that I would love to see it and I am sure that you're willing to do something about it. Below are an examples of the features that I have request it :

- Adding sub-category and sub-sub-category feature in the files section for better organization for our files.
- adding comments/email notification at the Risk Register section.
- improving the dashboard to have graphic charts.
- adding ISSUES section at each Project page.
- Improving the reporting at "project options" in the overview page. the current report include only the milestone and tasks report. and I think it should include the risk register report, and at the same time, the project budget, PM name, customer, percentage completed, on progress, not started.

I have many things in my mind, I will send you my feedback once I remember something else.

Hi Abdullah,

Thanks for your comments, and yes we did receive your feedback and were only just talking about it over coffee this morning. Improving the dashboard is something that Peter is very keen to do at some stage as he to feels it could and should display more useful information.

The ability to add comments to the risk register has come up quite a few times now from users so we do have this marked down to do.

The whole issue of reporting is area we are always looking into. Dan made some big improvements to this area last year and again we will look to make a lot more as the year goes on.

Thanks again for your feedback.

Since I imagine most of your customers are business people and therefore use Blackberry's when can we expect an app?
Thanks for the comment E.
Unfortunately an official Blackberry App is not on our Roadmap but we welcome interest from 3rd party developers to use our API to build one. If you know any point them to http://developer.teamworkpm.net
Dan.

Big Hello to all in Cork from all in Dublin.

Love the site, have a major bugbear though - file sub-categories. This is so clunky guys. Take a look at our Paypal project file section - it is VERY difficult to navigate for the team. Any chance we could get a quick fix ahead of a more developed solution (as your Peter in support tells me is in the pipeline).

Thanks.

Gary

Lads,

A few suggestions:

Option to force user to (1) actively select Notify and Privacy settings (2) force some text entry in the Description, when uploading a file. Will encourage better file 'house keeping' by the team members. Maybe a pop-up alert when someone selects Everybody or Nobody (for either Privacy or Notify settings)- an 'ARE YOU SURE?' prompt would be a great reminder. This is a big problem for my more senior team members who are getting 50 mails a day because a file administrator in an drawing office hasn't bothered to understand and use these settings and subsequently decides to upload the 50 files individually!! Believe me, regularly happens.

Option to schedule all outgoing site notifications, auto-site notifications (such as daily report). It would be useful to have an option to turn off all outbound site emails from say 6pm to 7am. This would allow people to work on the site, upload files and not worry about sending notifications to team members after hours. If the system stacked the notifications until 7am. These times could be user defined. Also, user-defined time for the daily reports etc. Who picked 5am? :-)

Thanks lads
