Edit vs View task.....

In the latest release of the app, we changed the behaviour of clicking on a task.

This item has been sitting on our list for quite some time and we could not decide what to do.

We used to get so many negative feedback items from people who clicked the task title and expected to go to the View Task page but instead found themselves editing the task. This resulted in them not seeing comments, files etc relating to the task. It also meant that the Tasks section had a different user experience to other areas of the app such as Milestones, Files etc where clicking the Title of the item went to the View page. We decided to bite the bullet and change the behaviour.

This was not an easy decision to make but we have come up with a 50/50 solution. If you click the Task Title you go to the View Page. If you click the Person at the start of the task, you get the old Edit In Place method.

This is going to be a little frustrating for existing users at first and we're still on the fence about it but I'd like to get people's feedback on this change. Please let us know in the comments what you think and we'll take everybody's views on board....

I think it´s a good decision. it´s going very fast for me to integrate the change. and i like it to get an overview for the task if i click on it.

one thing could be better for me: the site jumps to the end of all comments. if there are a lot of comments i have to scroll up to see the top of the site. It will be better to start the site with top. If I want to see the latest comments I can go there through the comment icon.

I like too...although I think going to end-of-comments might be preferred for some.

The true solution to comments is to add the option for viewing in reverse chron., and starting at the top per Dennis. Also, adding an ability to 'hide' low-value comments, and adding a view-all as needed would be nice too.

Yes, Mike, that´s absolute true. Very good advice.

Mike's ideas are spot on.

The new solution in terms of editing/viewing tasks is spot on though and pretty intuitive for me.

I love it! ( But then I did ask for it at one stage, so I might be biased :)
At first I was a little frustrated by the change however I've adapted to it quicky. My biggest gripe was that it added an extra click to edit a task, although that also means tasks can't be pushed back as easily which is a good thing. Now knowing I can quick edit by clicking the name solves my only problem with it, so yet again good job!
Definitely a good improvement thanks.
